Answer
Personal Aim Statement
Against the backdrop of broader nursing objectives revolving around the delivery of quality patient-centered care, an aim is hereby set to, in the next six months, develop and demonstrate strong clinical leadership as well as role modelling. Development of this aim statement is thus pegged upon the Model for Improvement presented by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (2019), which is structured around three key components; namely, aim, measures, and changes. Having established the current aim as aforementioned, measures will include review meetings, diary evidence (of any reviews undertaken), staff or team member feedback, evidence of change in practice as an output of review or feedback, role modelling, and leadership roles played.
Contextual changes will be developed and accomplished through critical thinking, benchmarking, and creative thinking. More importantly, other change concepts that will be useful include providing clear, accurate, honest, timely, and open information to team members, respecting every member of the team and ensuring their contributions count, sharing skills and knowledge, keeping everyone in the loop by giving regular updates, and mentoring others even as they seek to realize personal development. Additionally, it will be important to keep one’s own promises, thereby following through whatever action one decides to take. Stopping to help others and taking one’s own time to lend a hand will also be a good change concept related to the current aim. Seeking to consistently live true to various core nursing care values will equally be important.
To sum up, the measures and change concepts presented will be crucial to realizing the current aim, which is to, in the next 6 months, develop and demonstrate strong clinical leadership as well as role modelling. This aim is congruent with broader individualized objectives pertinent to personal development during this course and beyond.
