  •  Plate Tectonics and Continental Drift

Scientists predict that Africa is going to smash into Europe as Australia migrates north to merge with Asia. Meanwhile, the Atlantic Ocean will probably widen for a spell before it reverses course and later disappears.

"Two hundred and fifty million years ago the landmasses of Earth were clustered into one supercontinent dubbed Pangea. As Yogi Berra might say, it looks like "deja vu all over again" as the present-day continents slowly converge during the next 250 million years to form another mega-continent: Pangea Ultima".

View the link below for information related to the above statement, then research additional information about present plate motion to predict future continental positions. Using the information that you find, discuss the landmass formation that will occur if they have predicted correctly. What significant change may occur if this would happen? What changes would occur if this were to happen quickly in today's world?

Answer

Plate Tectonic and Continental Drift

Plate tectonics is a theory that explains the current structure of the earth's crust. Additionally, it is also associated with occurrences that result from the interaction of the rigid lithospheric plates that slowly move under the underlying mantles. Continental drift is the process through which the continents move across the earth’s surface through a geographical timing. Therefore, this theory and the process of continental movement explain the current position of the continents on the earth's surface. Hence, this paper analyzes the direction of the earth's movement to determine the future position of continents.

The gradual movement of the earth – plate tectonic – will determine how the continents are going to move and form in the future. If the movement continues as it is, Africa will continue to move northward, reducing the Mediterranean Sea towards Europe.   Additionally, the move will widen the Atlantic and Australia will move north. Furthermore, some of the changes that will occur are that America as a continent will move further apart from Africa and Europe. At the same time, Atlantic Oceans continues to widen due to the sea floor's splitting. Moreover, there is a collision between Africa and Europe, making the Mediterranean Sea close off and the two continents joining to form one landmass – continent.

Notably, if the change were to happen quickly in today’s aftermath would be a disastrous world, plate tectonics moves quickly, which fastens the continental drifting. There would be a strong earthquake that might destroy properties like structural buildings and road splitting. Besides, there would be a loss of life. Therefore, there will be a significant change in the future that will occur, and new landforms will occur as others disappear. Any quick occurrence of the movements would lead to the destruction of properties and loss of life.shower led to the disappearance of one of the major species on the world.
