Answer
Portrayal of Anxiety in Children in the Novel All Birds Have Anxiety by Kathy Hoopmann
The novel entitled All Birds Have Anxiety by Kathy Hoopmann happens to be the best psychologically sensitive novel portrayal of children that I have read. This novel focuses on anxiety in children. One of the most compelling aspects of this novel when it comes to the portrayal anxiety in kids is its employment of cats in depiction of anxiety in children as a normal phenomenon and assisting children to learn how to stay calm, express themselves, and have fun. In the article entitled “Anxiety disorders in children and adolescents: Need for early detection” by Bhatia and Goyal (2018), the authors play a significant role in addressing the issue of anxiety by embracing the view of Hoopmann on this issue. Just like Hoopmann, Bhatia and Goyal consider anxiety in children a normal issue.
Bhatia and Goyal (2018) argue that anxiety is a usual human emotion and involves affective, cognitive, and behavioural responses or reactions to the discernment of danger. The authors assert that anxiety is considered pathological or excessive when it is extreme or when it leads to significant impairment and distress. According to Bhatia and Goyal (2018), anxiety is perceived as a normal aspect of childhood and that children experience shyness, nervousness, fear, and avoidance of activities and places that persist at times regardless of the helpful efforts of teachers, parents, and caretakers. The authors proceed to state that anxiety disorders are common forms of disorders in kids and adolescents, with a prevalence rate of between 4% and 20% (Bhatia & Goyal, 2018). The most prevalent anxiety disorders in children that are highlighted in the article are social phobia, specific phobia, separation anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. In addition, the authors highlight the role of environmental and hereditary factors, as well as cognitive bias in anxiety in kids, and recommend pharmacotherapy and non-pharmacological approaches in the management of anxiety in children.
