    Practicum Project Objectives Mapping Matrix

for the matrix, you place your five practicum learning objectives at the very top of the column (it specifies that) then go down the column for each separate objective comparing it to each of the PSLO’s and consider the assignments and other activities that you will be doing in this class and the next for implementation and evaluation. Which PSLO’s does the objective meet and just a short comment of how and then do that for each of the objectives. Curriculum Lesson Plan on Strategies for Enhancing Compassion, Addressing Fatigue, and Burnout to Improve Nurse Retention

Topic: What are the causes of nurse burnout and how can schools of nursing prepare their students?

Nurse burnout is a common problem in the practice of nursing characterized by reduction of energy among nurses and can manifests in lack of motivation, emotional exhaustion, feeling of frustration and reduction in work efficacy (Mudallal, Othman, & Hassan, 2017).

Project Purpose/Goal: The goal of the proposed project is to develop and implement a curriculum lesson plan on strategies for enhancing compassion, addressing fatigue, and burnout to improve retention of nurses.

    Objectives:

    1. To assess/analyze learning needs of nursing students in relation to compassion, fatigue, and burnout.
    2. To develop a curriculum on best practices for nurses on compassion, fatigue, and burnout.
    3. To assess the capability of nursing students to cope with stressful working environment.
    4. To evalaute retention rates among nurses who will complete this newly proposed curriculum.
    5. To assess and evaluate student nurses in terms of their ability to provide compassionate care, manage fatigue, and burnout.

Assessment/Analysis: Does the current curriculum prepare nursing students to prevent or cope with burnout issues?

Investigation/Research: Review of current literature on sources, interventions and prevention strategies against nurse burnout issues. According to Dall’Ora et al. (2020) predictors of burnout include value incongruence, poor social climate or social support, low decision latitude, low control over the job, low rewards, and high workload.  Besides, regulatory and accreditation requirements for development of a new curriculum should also be reviewed and taken into consideration. Besides, the procedures and other policies that should be followed or taken into consideration before development of a new curriculum should also be reviewed.

Planning/Development: Knowledge gaps and the learning needs of nursing students in order to address burnout issues and improve nurse coping abilities in practice. The other plan would be to determine the duration and the lesson plan for the new curriculum.

Answer

      1. Project Objectives Mapping Matrix

In the first column of the matrix below are the programmatic student learning outcomes (PSLOs) for your program. The school has defined these particular PSLOs as what the school wants its students to know or do by the end of their program. These PSLOs have been the foundation upon which the entire program has been built. Every course you have taken as part of this program was designed specifically to help you master these objectives.

In the matrix below you will map the objectives of your practicum project to the PSLOs. Every project objective does not have to map to a PSLO nor does every PSLO have to have something mapped to it, and a project objective can map to more than one PSLO.

A typical project will have 3 to 5 objectives. Enter your project objectives in the headings of each column. For each project object that maps to a PSLO, briefly describe how it aligns with the Program SLO in the corresponding box.

        Objectives

        Objective 1

(To assess/analyze learning needs of nursing students in relation to compassion, fatigue, and burnout)

        Objective 2

(To develop a curriculum on best practices for nurses on compassion, fatigue, and burnout)

        Objective 3

(To assess the capability of nurses students to cope with the stressful working environment)

        Objective 4

(To evaluate retention rates among nurses who will complete this newly proposed curriculum )

        Objective 5

(To assess and evaluate student nurses in terms of their ability to provide compassionate care, manage fatigue, and burnout)

        PSLO1:

Apply organizational and systems leadership concepts to the management of human, fiscal, and physical health care resources for diverse populations in a variety of settings.

The strengths and weaknesses of employees are evaluated through performance management, which is conducted by the management.

The working environment is influenced and based on leadership and management.

The organizational system and leadership is responsible for evaluating and monitoring the employee turnover rate.

        PSLO2:

Evaluate processes, systems, and utilization of current technologies to support continuous quality improvement and promote safety in order to elevate patient outcomes in various settings across the care continuum.

The learning needs are evaluated through technology systems. These include the collection, analysis, and storage of data.

The curriculum is developed and implemented through online platforms. The curriculum content involves simulation.

Simulations will be used to evaluate the nurses’ capabilities to cope with the stressful environment.

        PSLO3:

Synthesize scholarship from a variety of sources to promote the implementation of evidence-based practice.

Relate the evaluated learning needs with the literature.

Use literature on the best practices for nurses on compassion, fatigue, and burnout to develop a training curriculum.

Use scholarly information to determine how the retention rates can be evaluated.

The literature and scholarly sources inform the assessment and evaluation criteria.

        PSLO4:

Evaluate healthcare policy, regulatory, legal, economic, ethical, and sociocultural environments to advocate for patients and effect change in the health care system based on their role.

The learning needs are socioeconomic factors as well as compassion, fatigue, and burnout.

Nurses are directed by their standards of practice to provide quality care that is compassionate and engage in lifelong learning.

        PSLO5:

Critique evidence-based delivery within an interdisciplinary team to serve diverse populations in various local, national, and global settings.

Use the literature to establish the best evidence-based practice on compassion, fatigue, and burnout.

Develop a curriculum that is informed by evidence-based practices.

        PSLO6:

Justify teaching methodologies that support adult learning.

Use simulations in the education curriculum. The information and training programs can also be shared using technological platforms.

        PSLO7:

        Design engaging learning activities.

Using the learning needs assessment and evidence-based practice to develop an engaging training program.

The curriculum involves technology, such as simulation, to enhance its quality and engagement.

        PSLO8:

Plan curriculum to meet the current regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and industry standards.

The curriculum is developed in line with the training needs and literature on various aspects, including the standards.

The curriculum borrows concepts from the existing education programs and standards.

        PSLO9:

Design tools that evaluate formative and summative student learning.

The evaluation tool is tailored to evaluate the student nurse’s grasping of various concepts.

The evaluation tool examines the student’s coping mechanism within a stressful working environment.

The evaluation tool evaluates the student’s competence and ability to provide compassionate care, managing burnout and fatigue.
