President Jackson's Proclamation Regarding Nullification is a document written by Andrew Jackson on 10th December, 1832 to oppose the state’s rights to cancel a federal law. The purpose of this document was to respond to the decree issued by the South Caroline convention that declared tariff acts of 1828 and 1832 illegal according to the US Constitution and that these acts go against the true meaning and thus should be regarded null and void within South Carolina State. The major audience for this source may have been the Congress who was opposing the state’s rights to cancel the federal law. Essentially, this document had far ranging influences on antebellum American history. In particular, it offered the platform for the conflict between Unionism and state’s rights that at last resulted in the emergence of Civil War.
