DISCUSSION
Networking is an important career development skill worth building. Before taking this course, I didn’t really emphasize on building this skill. I have found myself opening up more to others about my career goals and aspirations. In response, I have met people in different professional fields that revolve around a common theme; working with and helping children. Through my current position, I have met with a private service provider that works in the same field. She shared with me ways to help curve behavior, organize data and even training modules to help. This is one of the key aspects explored by Volmer, Schulter and Toger (2019). Another aspect they found that was positive about professional networking wais finding motivation in the work. I have found this to be especially true as working with children on the Spectrum has turned out to be very stressful and physically demanding. Through a select few that are in my field, I have been able to find motivation through how my work helps and how small bits of progress is still progress.
Through this field, I have collaborated with therapists, teachers, speech therapists, OT therapists, psychologists, and behaviorists. I am able to share and exchange ideas with them, learn about their roll and how to incorporate different aspects of their approach in my work. This also helps build rapport with the service providers as I may need to work with them in the future with different clients.
