Answer
Qualitative Research Summary
Study 1
The study by Beck and Watson (2010) purposed to explain the experiences of women in subsequent childbirth after a traumatic one. The study employed phenomenology design for the 35 women. Findings were explained through four main themes. In the first theme, it involves riding the panic wave during pregnancy. Under this theme, frequent terms describing the women world during the pregnancy after the first one which was traumatic included dread, panic, denial, terror, anxiety, and fear. In the second theme, it involves women developing attempts to not only reclaim their bodies through yoga and outdoor activities but also accomplish the motherhood journey. The third theme comprised establishing reverence to the birthing approach and empowering the mothers. For most women and mothers, the second experience was a healing process from the previous trauma thus the importance of support to these individuals. In the fourth theme, it involved still elusive where the women desired for a healing experience although not all achieved what they yearned for. These themes explain the women encounters between two pregnancies and child birth where the first was traumatic.

The descriptive phenomenology design was used while data collection entailed interviews to the 9 participants. Data analysis involved framework developed by Ritchie and Spencer. Four themes are used to explain the findings. In the first one, it entails the medical profession’s opinion and experiences. In the second theme, it involves comprehending the mental illness and welfare where the individuals described conflicting and confusing ideas. Also, physical and mental health were explained as entirely separate. The third theme entails managing social settings which are described by the participants sharing experiences that revolved around meals and foods with their social circles including friends and families. The individuals further demonstrated sadness and loss feelings as they thought about the aspects that they missed. Under the fourth theme, it involves security and identity where the participants struggled when comparing themselves against the pre-diagnosis abilities or the idea of normal according to the society. These themes demonstrated the importance of promoting the psychological welfare of individuals with gastroparesis besides pharmacological management.
