Racism and Discrimination Amongst Women and People of Color
Racism believes that diverse races have discrete traits, skills, or attributes to classify them as minor or superior to another. On the other hand, discrimination is described as the inequitable or unfavourable treatment of diverse people, particularly due to race, age, sex, or disability (Taylor, 2019). The inequalities encountered by racial discrimination victims and related prejudice are well recognized, including faulty employment possibilities, discrimination, and endemic poverty. The disadvantages encountered by women and people of colour are also frequent, including lower-wage, high illiteracy, and deprived healthcare access. According to Quillian et al. (2017), while race is one cause of inequality, gender is another significant form of discrimination amongst women and people of colour. People and governments should eliminate racism and discrimination amongst women and people of colour because they significantly contribute to increased poverty and inequality.
According to the World’s Women statistics, women have a long way to go before attaining equality with men. The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) indicates that women fall short in many of the indicators that evaluate gender equality and ladies’ empowerment (Quillian et al., 2017). According to DeNinno (2019), the minorities and women in various communities have narrowed work possibilities and often at the bottom of the employment market. Many women and people of colour struggle in trade zones, the ordinary marketplace or deregulated divisions. Other studies indicate that women of colour receive the lowest wages, four times less than that of a white man (Srivastava, 2019). Moreover, they live and often employed in unhealthy neighborhoods, work a triple working day and encounter discrimination.
Conclusively, racism and discrimination amongst women and people of colour should be eliminated because they continue to increase inequality and poverty levels. Women and people of colour should be given equal job opportunities to address their daily needs.
