Answer
Recreational Marijuana for Mississippi
The goal of this essay is to present arguments for legalization of marijuana in the state of Mississippi. The recent past as seen reforms in a number of states such as New York, Texas, Washington, Mississippi just to mention trying to ensure cannabis is actively utilized. This is a matter of importance which has undergone controversies in the past years, though there are states and nations that have already upheld the idea and are investing so much in marijuana cultivation. While several states have made strides in reforms to active legalization of marijuana, Mississippi is among the states with high intolerance for the drug and only medial use for low Tolerance Consumers (LTC) is legal. Personally, marijuana has a vast number of benefits that comes along with its consumption in moderate proportions. This paper argues that Marijuana should be legalized in Mississippi recreationally because it has significant health benefits, lowers crime rates, and boost the economy.
Basing on the health aspect, it is clear that marijuana is associated with a number of medical benefits. Recently, the Food and Drug Administration of Unites States approved that all medication types which contain Tetrahydrocannabinol (dronabinol- syndros liquid and Marinol capsules) and nabilone are effective in stimulating appetite among AIDS patients and controlling chemotherapy vomiting. Moreover, in some other states, it has equally been approved that nabiximols aid in treatment of sclerosis muscle spasticity and any pains relating to cancer which cannot be controlled under medication. This could be a golden chance for Mississippi to improve the health condition of its people. Consumption of marijuana in regulated doses can also be applied in prevention of eye disease glaucoma (a disease associated with pressure increase in human eyeball) that results into optic nerve damage that impairs vision (Richter, 399). According to the National Eye Institute of United States, when marijuana is smoked, it lowers intraocular pressure among people with both normal pressure and glaucoma related conditions. The drug operates in a way that its effects often slow disease progression while preventing blindness.
Marijuana will equally reverse all carcinogenic tobacco effects for improving lung cancer among citizens in Mississippi. A study made once published in the Journal of the American Medical Association back in January 2012 outlined that marijuana often increases lung capacity as opposed to the most believed misconception that it impairs functioning of the lungs. Most scientific researchers further clarify on possibilities of increased lung capacity as a result of deep breath taking while at the same time inhaling the drug and not on the therapeutic chemical view. The cannabidiol chemical present in marijuana helps in reduction of rate of cancer spread. It was clearly stated by researchers at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco that Cannabidiol helps in prevention of cancer spread, a key investment among the residents of Mississippi. This chemical operates by turning off certain genes named Id-1 whereby the cancer cells make several duplicates of this gene as opposed to non-cancerous cells, helping its spread in the entire body. This idea was applied in treatment of breast cancer cells in a certain lab which had high levels of Id-1. The approach helped reduce the genes’ intensity by rendering them less aggressive, meaning compound cannabis can readily kill several cancer cells.
Consequently, medical marijuana legalization does not increase crime, meaning it will not affect the security status in Mississippi, but instead helps in its reduction especially on the homicide aspect (Shepard 130). Basing on statistics from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, the legalized medical pot enhanced reduction in cases of violent crime and reduction in poverty rates. California was the first state to legalize medical marijuana and it is evident that most states are complying to this fact which is a positive idea for the benefit of us all (Hajizadeh & Mohammad 453). The central results gleaned from recurrent studies made on Medical Marijuana Legalization (MML) suggest that this drug is not predictive of any type of crime and instead has a direct correlation with reduction in assault and homicide incidences. Interestingly, medical marijuana legislation did not have any association with burglary rates nor robbery incidences. This fact therefore runs counter to the fact that grow houses and dispensaries result into high victimization as a result of opportunity structures linking to present cash and drug amount, in Mississippi.
On the economic aspect, setting up of marijuana nurseries and related dispensaries is a key step for most nations that voted in favor of legalization of medical marijuana. This is a key investment area for the residents of Mississippi since it will help boost their economic status. This will not only create job opportunities, but also establish a ball rolling session for boosting economic activities in the pot industry of Mississippi. It is therefore clear that legalizing investment and consumption of recreational marijuana will sort a large population of the unemployed persons (Hajizadeh & Mohammad 453). This sector will definitely become quantifiable as time goes by due to progressive maturing of marijuana related investments. It is very important to be realistic. California has risen in position of economically stable states to position six courtesy of legalization of medical marijuana. This afterwards became a tremendous deal for other nations like Colorado, Oregon, Washington and Alaska. Mississippi should not, therefore, be an exception because such projects will increase the state’s total labor income while improving living standards of most citizens.
Ideally, despite Mississippi decriminalizing marijuana, it still portrays a far step from being legalized. Introduction of medical marijuana programs within the regions will further enlighten the people on its positive impacts which apparently outweigh the negative ones. Therefore, marijuana should be legalized in Mississippi recreationally because it has significant health benefits, lowers crime rates, and boost the economy.
