Reflecting on Ethical Management and Principles
The Common Good Approach regards that every person is a part of the larger community. Hence, humans share common institutions and conditions upon which their welfare depends. Basing on what I have learned on this ethical framework, my behavior might change such that I will become more accommodative of other people’s interests and values. It is clear that for a community to thrive, it is essential to safeguard community sustainability for the benefit of all persons, including the most vulnerable and weak members. I will strive to facilitate things that nurture a healthy and functional community like a just legal system, a stable organizational relationship, affordable nourishment, a safe and well managed organizational culture and the maintenance of a peaceful society.
With regards to virtue ethics, I will strive to show concern to an entire person’s life as opposed to specific actions or episodes. It is clear that a good person is one who lives virtuously. It is a useful theoretical framework to me because as a human being, I will strive to build an ethically upright society by helping people around me- including myself to be good and righteous people, as opposed to sticking to laws and punishments to deter, terminate or prevent bad life decisions and actions.
My professional ethics might influence how I behave in a number of ways. All professional code of conduct is known to draw on these ethical principles as the basis for prescribing the appropriate behavioral standards for individuals of a profession. Moreover, they seek to set out the expectations of a society and a profession on its members. The professional ethics equips me with distinct guidelines for the minimum standard of appropriate behavior in a professional context. Codes of conduct operate alongside the personal values of members in the profession as well as the general law of the land. They build high confidence in the profession’s trustworthiness. This is so because the code further improves my level of transparency and certainty with regards to how certain affairs should be ethically handled. It is a supporting framework against pressures to act inappropriately, and allow me to make acceptable decisions in what may be regarded as ‘grey areas’. Generally, it provides a common understanding of acceptable practice appropriate for developing collegiality and enabling fairer disciplinary procedures, especially whenever am in the leadership or managerial position. Generally, by paying heed to the diverse professional code of ethics, I am well positioned to handle a wide variety of organizational issues in the professional line.
The behavior of senior management might influence my behavior in a number of ways. Since quality managers hold themselves to the greatest standards in order for the rest of the team to have a clear example of what they should actually strive for, integrity, professionalism, and honesty (DuBrin, 2015) will definitely be a part of me. As a leader, I will always strive to act as an example to the rest when it comes to working ethics and demeanor. My behavior will improve since I will contain the capacity to identify diplomatic solutions to various workplace issues, exhibit vibrant moral values while providing unique customer service with a professional attitude. Since the position equips me with the right life skills, I will be able to identify, face, and overcome a wide variety of issues that are likely to arise in the workplace. I will learn to contain myself and display outstanding attention to detail. As a top manager, I will likely spot emerging issues before they are apparent to every person within the organization by identifying the root of the trouble. Ideally, my communication and problem-solving approaches will definitely change for the better.
Corporate governance refers to the manner a corporation polices itself. In brief, it is a strategy of governing the organization as a sovereign state, whereby it instates its own policies, customs and laws to its staff from the topmost to the lowest levels (Tricker, 2015). Corporate governance will generally influence my behavior because I will learn to take accountability of company proceedings and current state and learn how to prevent massive disasters or events before their occurrence (Tricker, 2015). Solid corporate governance will influence my patterns of thinking, handling issues or even managing large company projects. Properly executed corporate governance should be the same as the internal affairs in a police departmental unit. I will be in a position to weed out or eliminate issues among the people in my cycle with extreme prejudice and learn how to effectively assess and address the needs of different parties.
As an influence of human behavior, culture adopts the “nurture” part of the argument regarding influences of behavior. Culture basically considers the totality of a society’s belief system, practices, laws, language, mores, and attitudinal variables which make an individual unique from the rest. It holds a critical role in assessing and determining how a person behaves or carries herself in any given environment (DuBrin, 2015). In my case, depending on the nature of culture, I will definitely start acting or behaving in ways that are seen as appropriate to such a culture, my sense of fashion or dress code, belief system, grooming, attitude, and language will definitely be molded to fit into that environment which makes me become accepted by them.
The ethical code of conduct and frameworks within an organization are known to impact on the culture of a firm. A leader must ensure that he operates in ethically acceptable ways that build or heal the personal well-being of their employees. Every firm needs a leader that can fully commit and be a powerful influence on them to translate into productivity by creating a culture that favors the appropriate values (Alvesson & Sveningsson, 2015). This can also be achieved by sharing the need to appreciate intercultural diversity and accomplish a particular vision for the future. It is, therefore, significant to switch the culture of an organization to fit their preferences. The procedure can be propelled through ethical frameworks that commonly seek to do good to all persons. Basing on the frameworks, a leader has the capacity to challenge the current developments to fit the values upheld across borders. Leaders must spur a shared vision for all, model channels that encourage teamwork and cooperation regardless of an individual’s ethnic background, values, religion, race, and language to enable all actors to work in unison (Alvesson & Sveningsson, 2015). The principles push managers and leaders to induce their followers and enable them to act for particular goals that represent the values and motives of both leaders and their employees. Leaders are concerned about vision, path, and change.
In conclusion, ethical principles and frameworks play a critical role in shaping organizational culture and the general performance regimes. Ethical management of organizational issues inform personal thinking ways about future workplace behaviors in a variety of ways. As aforementioned, the senior management position, corporate governance structures, and the culture of an organization readily influence one’s behavior in a variety of aspects. Baseline, the ethical code of conduct can be used by corporations to create an ethical culture in organizations.
