Reflection 6 – Quality and Safety Education for Nurses
In this reflection, you are to look at how you met the core clinical objective: Provide evidence-based, patient-centered care incorporating data from healthcare technologies to improve client care, as part of the interdisciplinary health care team.
Remember we want to answer the below bolded questions from a leadership lens. Often the leadership perspective is looking from things not as a bedside nurse but rather how you can support the bedside nurse.
Activity Statements and Reflection Questions
- Apply research, scholarly evidence, and technology to inform the delivery of care.
Tell me at least 1 example from your practicum that meets the above activity statement.
How did you see your leader meet the above statement:
- How did you feel about using scholarly evidence to support the decisions for care delivery?
- How did you apply (or see your preceptor apply) research in your clinical immersion to inform the delivery of care.
- How did you apply (or see your preceptor apply) technology in your clinical immersion to inform the delivery of care.
- Apply concepts of quality and safety using outcome measures to identify clinical questions.
Tell me at least 1 example from your practicum that meets the above activity statement.
How did you see your leader meet the above statement:
- How did the use of data support changes in healthcare (how did it change your way of knowing)?
- Demonstrate team building and collaboration when working with intraprofessional and interprofessional teams.
Tell me at least 1 example from your practicum that meets the above activity statement.

Questions:
How would you use chatbots in you speciality?
Do you think that the use of chatbots would increase nurses unemployment, if so why?
How would you utilize chatbots, especially during the pandemic and doctors not accepting new patients?
ANSWER
Health Informatics
Health Informatics is a digital information system that applies Information Technology techniques to assess health records and improve results. On the other hand, essential psychiatric information is normally collected from mental disorder patients to help make the clinical decision for diagnosis. In this paper, the author will apply the question and answer technique to explain how chatbots can be used in psychiatry to address the patient's condition. On the other hand, the paper will answer chatbots' question in increasing nurses' employment and ways in which chatbots can be utilized in pandemic where doctors do not accept patients.
Question one: How would you use chatbots in your specialty?
Concerning the World Health Organization (WHO), mental illness forms include depression, bipolar conditions, and dementia, among other conditions that affect human beings of all ages. In human life, mental disorders have been realized to be responsible for depression, abnormal thoughts, and illusions that can be dangerous to the affected individuals (Dolianniti et al., 2020). When individuals start suffering from mental disorders, perceived stigmatization has been faced, limiting information collection to offer a diagnosis. However, when chatbots are used among the mentally challenged, stigmatization is reduced while adequate treatment is available using artificial intelligence. On the other hand, in extreme conditions where patients appear aggressive, apply artificial intelligence to collect relevant information for the treatment plan. Therefore the use of chatbots is an essential input when patient satisfaction and proper diagnosis are applied together with safety and ethical concerns for both patients and care providers.
Question two: Do you think that the use of chatbots would increase nurses’ unemployment? If so, why?
From a personal perspective, chatbots will not create unemployment but rather increase employment. According to ( Valtolina et al., 2020), patients subjected to chatbot monitoring systems have reported increased privacy as well as anonymity. Therefore, this situation has increased the demand for attention by mentally challenged individuals, leading to a shortage of nurses to provide care. In an attempt to address nurses’ shortage, chatbots have created nurses employment for technical applications such as Woebot for mood monitoring, Moodkit for mental system analysis, and Pacifica that evaluates anxiety among its users to alert attention provision. Using such technological approaches, hospitals and government will thus be able to employ more nurses to handle different chatbots for meeting mental patient needs. On the other hand, nurses' confidence working as psychiatrists will increase, leading to additional nurse employment.
Question three: How would you utilize chatbots, especially during the pandemic and doctors not accepting new patients?
The pandemic period, such as the era of CVID-19, has sparked fear among patients and care providers. Generally, there is a fear of contracting the virus by health works, according to global reports. As a psychiatrist, I will apply chatbots to collect relevant information from patients and diagnose medical applications' easy use. In this case, I will apply the use of Wysa that collects data on patient emotions and apply evidence-based techniques to provide prescriptions that can be collected by patients at the comfort of their homes. On the other hand, I will apply a robot monitoring plan that interacts with patients admitted globally and use collected data to make a clinical decision. This will be a working solution for the pandemic situation for the mental disorder unit.
