Answer

  1. REFLECTIONS

What would your preceptor and colleagues say about your interprofessional and intraprofessional communication methods used during the indirect care experience?

Patient-centered healthcare is vital in ensuring that all patients receive maximum care while recuperating. The eventuality of this is that patient will come out of healthcare facilities healthier, and the facilities will not have any issues. At times, healthcare facilities have issues that pertain to both interprofessional communication and issues in practice error and teamwork.

As a nursing leader, I believe that effective interprofessional communication is essential in marinating open channels that help in consultation between different healthcare providers by providing insight and expertise that one may have towards patient-centered care. As an assertive nursing leader, I would advocate for proper and immediate channels of communication between different healthcare practitioners to help in advising new nurses. Although one may be skilled as a nurse, as in Karen's case, different healthcare facilities perform tasks differently, and in this case, advice given by the resident should have resonated in her practice. Efficiencies towards proper patient- care involve the precise and proper communication, provision of adequate information that one may have a problem understanding, any changes whether big or small on a patient’s condition should be notified to higher authorities, proper responses to other healthcare professionals should be included. Nurses should also be polite and respectful (Hancock, 2016). Moreover, with everyone doing their part towards patient-care, these traits will help in better patient health outcomes.

Although errors may arise in healthcare equipment, strategies need to be enforced towards effective damage control as in Annie’s case. As a nurse leader, effective communication should be implemented to help in addressing such issues. Also, the inclusion of delegation in rooting out the parties responsible for such errors may help in proper channels of communication towards an adequate understanding of the issues that arise (Mayo & Anita Williams Woolley, 2016). Delegation of duties will see the inclusion of the technical staff into a nursing team that will help to make sure that all equipment in the health facility is up to date and working effectively. This will allow all faulty equipment to be scrapped off in the making bringing in new age innovations that give proper results like in Annie's case.  Lastly, I would recommend that new ideas should be implemented in how faulty equipment may be brought to light in making sure that such errors are not repeated as they may lead to lawsuits.

Utilize appropriate prioritization and delegation techniques to promote safe and effective nursing care.

Patient – care is a priority for every nursing practitioner. Practical nursing involves appropriate nursing delegation that involves task delegation, circumstance delegation, supervision and evaluation.

Task delegation is significant towards safe nursing care in that it helps other nurses to build confidence with subordinate nurses. Proper task delegation deals with the ability to believe that a task can be effectively done, therefore promoting team cohesion and effectiveness (Rivier University, 2017). Task delegation involves the knowledge of the nursing team's strengths and weaknesses to know who will be useful in what task while who will not excel in the same.

Understanding the circumstances that surround patients will allow task delegation to be effective. I believe that as a nurse leader, task delegation will go hand in hand with a nurse's awareness of situations of patients' conditions. Eventually learning about a patient's condition will allow a nurse leader to delegate tasks that with knowing the team's strengths, one can evaluate how nurses will handle fluctuating cases in patients with stable patient conditions. Therefore, the right nurse will be delegated the right task effectively promoting safe nursing care.

By practicing appreciation while delegating tasks to nurses will boost the nurses’ morale in working and improving nursing care conditions. Through proper directions and effective communication, nursing leaders will evaluate nurses' professionalism towards specific tasks delegated; therefore, proper incentivization through appreciation and respect for taking on the tasks.

Respecting nursing staff under one assure that o as a nursing leader, one will perform significant delegate tasks to a team that they are confident over in ensuring proper patient care. Additionally, proper delegation demands one understanding of roles and duties to one staff and team. Eventually, if roles and tasks are delegated effectively, patient care is assured as well as proper administration and success of healthcare facilities.

How will you integrate the knowledge learned in the clinical setting to your nursing practice?

Alicia Cole's hospital encounter presents the need for learning opportunity in the integration of learnt skills into professional nursing practice. The STEPPS model provides the five fundamental qualities needed in any nursing practice to be useful in patient care. These fundamental properties are team structure, communication, leadership, situation monitoring, and mutual support. Alicia's case should have incorporated all five properties for effective patient care.

I believe having a proper team structure outlines the responsibilities and duties that each personnel member of the nursing team has to do. Effective delegation is imperative towards ensuring patient safety is achieved (Department of Health and Human Services, 2013). Implementing a team structure with appropriate responsibilities will allow this to be accomplished. Moreover, a team structure will only work as good as the communication between the team members. Proper communication effects proper working between members of the patient.

Additionally, every team needs a leading figure that shows authority in the delegation of work as well as patient care. As a leader in any team, an individual will assign proper teams to monitor situations that may arise with a patient’s condition. Finally, support between team members will lead to a patient having proper care in addressing issues that may arise if a patient’s condition changes.

Alicia's condition in the hospital saw a two-day surgery procedure take up to three months in which proper communication was not taken to heart in conveying what the patient may have been suffering. This showed the lack of patient consideration that would have been necessary for helping a patient know all options that may be for the condition at hand. As a nursing leader, the five fundamental principles are needed for proper patient care. Focusing on patient care is useful in administering a proper understanding of how a patient's condition is. If a patient undergoes proper patent care in any healthcare facility, any arising conditions are taken care of, not as of the case in Alicia Cole's scenario.

ng and chronicity nature of heart failure often drain supportive capacity and coping abilities of both care providers and the patient, leading to depression (Vera, 2020).

Answer

Assessing Risk and Reward

The Nissan Motor Company is one of the leading automobile makers in the world. The Japanese carmaker has primarily enjoyed a successful run, allowing it to enter various regional and international markets such as the United States. However, the changing business environment was not favorable to the company in 2019. Notably, the cooperation recorded losses amounting to 7.8%. The experience pushed the management into making tough decisions, requiring almost all of its North American workforce to go for unpaid leaves.

In late 2019, the company announced that the decline in sales necessitated a two-day unpaid leave for the North American workers. The stated days for the vacation were January 2 and 3rd    (Chicago Tribune, 2019).  Notably, this move was a crucial decision for the company because of its conflicting impacts. Whereas on the positive side, it could help the firm minimize expenses, it threatened to affect the public perception of the company regarding employee welfare.

The rewards for the decision involved cutting expenses by not paying the workers on leave, which eventually would translate into reduced expenses. Another reward was that the decision could allow the company to optimize performance by evaluating employee performances then developing new milestones. However, on the low side, the company risked affecting its public image and brand name, especially in the North American market. As per Chakravorti (2010), the way an organization treats its employees influences the firm's public perception. Thus, Nissan risked eliciting a negative public perception. With a distorted public image, the company could fail to revive its declining sales.

I would have advised the management of Nissan to utilize the Predictive Analytic perspective in determining the right decision to take. Ideally, the approach tries to predict what might happen in the future if particular decisions or actions are undertaken at the moment (Traymbak & Aggarwal, 2019). Looking at the situation at Nissan, the company needed to develop a goal such as increasing sales. After that, they would have made decisions aimed at realizing the set goal. In this regard, the predicted outcome could give the management an overview of whether more risks existed or significant rewards could be realized.
