Answer

Comparing Roles of State Board of Nursing with the Role of Professional Organizations in Regulating Professional Practice

The state of board of nursing is a regulatory body that licenses state specific fields of practice while setting nursing care standards, choosing most suitable practice scope for all nurses and qualified candidates within its jurisdiction. They pass Nursing Practice Acts for establishment of state regulations among governing bodies (Hamric et al., 2013). These Acts lay out licensure qualifications for defining nursing scope of practice while setting regulations that must be adhered to during performance. This board further authorizes legal use of licensing test examinations, approving whether set nursing education systems apply the established training criteria, regulation of nursing assistants or aides especially those operating in home healthcare setting and offering guidance to the legislature concerning legal nursing scope within a state. This essay compares and contrasts the role of state of board of nursing with that role of professional organizations in regulating professional practice. It also discusses the major methods of credentialing with their respective merits and demerits from the standpoint of protecting the public and the professional scope of practice.

To compare mean to give similarities and differences. You only have similarities.

Besides. Learn to make your points obvious by using explicit statements as highlighted green.

The two bodies above share some similarities as well as differences in terms of their roles in regulating professional practice. When it comes to similarities in roles, professional organizations, just like the state board of nursing, has key roles in regulation of professional practice. They both function by performing duties in relation to their professional practice. They also develop procedures and guidelines which ought to be followed by all staff members within the nursing profession. Additionally, they both develop and issue codes of conduct and further approve either written or unwritten professional rules (Hamric et al., 2013). These organizations also prepare standardized procedures or formats used for submitting bids while monitoring and evaluating rules compliance. Finally, they both administer disciplinary actions for all rule and lawbreakers for failing to adhere to code of conduct.

Where are the differences of the two bodies in their role of regulating professional practice?

Methods of Credentialing

Nurse credentialing is a procedure encompassing all activities on both institutional and individual levels. According to the International Council of nurses, credentialing is defined as a designation process by which an individual, institution, program or a given product meets all customary standards set by either governmental or non-governmental agents. The main forms or methods of credentialing include licensure, certification, accreditation, approval, charter and recognition. However, the major methods of credentialing include

Of the four highlighted, what are their benefits and weaknesses? Do a paragraph handling them one by one.

  1. initial licensure on practice entry,
  2. certification of specialized training skills within the concept of basic professional license
  • Licensure for advancement nursing practice especially on nursing anesthetics, primary care, certified midwives and primary care.

You are to provide the benefits and weaknesses of each of the four credentialing methods. Where are they? Needs to be addressed clearly.

With reference to licensing methodology, in both practice entry and advancement in nursing practice categories, obtaining a license from a governmental agency is very crucial. It helps reduce all care impacts to patients in cases where there is a large number of registered or licensed nurses relative to lower licensure levels among staff members because it ensures quality nursing operations (Vandenhouten et al., 2015). Therefore, this forms the standpoint of protecting the public alongside the professional scope of practice. The major limitation of the licensure method is that it lacks adequately accomplished research programs, which would have been utilized in determining general patient outcomes and care satisfaction from patients treated by nurses with an advanced practice as opposed to those attended to by physicians.

On the expertise certification method of credentialing, it aids in determination of an expertise’ scope and suitability for advancing in nursing profession. According to Vandenhouten (2015), it assesses the questions of whether patient outcomes when attended to by an experienced and certified nurse is similar or varies from outcome realized by a non-certified nurse.  Consequently, this method allows both the certified and non-certified nurse perform the same roles in patient care related activities without considering who is more qualified than the other. This is a factor hindering quality of care provided to patients in healthcare.
