I am impressed by the description of your sickroom especially on the various aspects which should be included based on Florence Nightingale’s book, “Notes on Nursing: What it is, and What it is Not.” I cannot agree more on the importance of fresh air, light, warmth, and minimal noise as well as cleanness for the patient [[i]]. Additionally, I hold the same view that the cleanliness of the bedding is vital not only for the comfort of the patient but also for preventing him/her from any infections which might arise from germs [[ii]]. You have designed the room in a manner that it can provide fresh air by having a window as well as ensuring that there is the light which could shine into the room. Your sick room design is a classic one based on the 1860 model described by Nightingale.

Despite the various elements that you have stated, I would also like to add that the room cannot be complete without having the necessary sanitary conditions such as ensuring that it has flowing tap water and disinfectants which can be used by the patient [[iii]]. Additionally, the sick room should be equipped, with clean beddings, which should be changed every day or at any other time that they are messed up by the patient. I want to add that apart from the patient’s skin being kept dry and clean; it is also vital that the floor in the room is also kept clean [[iv]]. Despite those factors, however, you have provided an impressive description of the 1860 sick room. The various elements you have provided in your design undoubtedly should be essential parts of the sick room.
