Research involves studying a given problem using the available scientific methods to develop informed conclusions and decisions about a particular problem. Besides, the research consists of collecting data, analysis, and drawing conclusions based on the data. Also, the research aims at generating new scientific knowledge for future studies. Similarly, most researchers have a similar feature of testing a hypothesis or improving the current knowledge even if it has a quantitative or qualitative focus. Quality improvement aims at improving services and outcomes within healthcare organizations.
In quality improvement, the management must lay down policies, procedures, and programs to improve the company's productivity and performance. Also, Quality improvement projects work to reduce the costs of operation, make the system more efficient for service delivery, and maintain constant gains in an organization. Also, Quality improvement provides procedures to ascertain, design plans, implement changes, and assess the results linked to an organization process, which is a significant concern.
Qualitative research involves the collection and analysis of non- numerical data. For example, the patient satisfaction surveys in hospitals used to collect data on patient-nurse communication, management of pain, communication between the nurse and the doctor, opinions of patients on the service offered by nurses. The data collected on patient satisfaction is used to improve the care provided to the patients. Also, the survey can help improve family satisfaction since their fellow family members are handled with a lot of care.
Quantitative research involves the collection and analysis of numerical data. The numerical data helps determine patterns, averages, making predictions, and generalizing results to vast populations. For example, collecting data regarding the operations of a hospital. The data collected helps the hospital to improve its efficiency in service delivery to customers. Also, it helps improve staff satisfaction since the management can be able to identify challenges facing the staff, which in the long run will improve the revenues of the hospitals.
