Purpose of the Study

The purpose of the study of the provided article is to establish the impact of coloring Mandalas on the anxiety of both Medical-Surgical nurses and nursing employees. It tries to find out why there is an increase of anxiety levels in nurses especially those that work in acute care departments, intensive care and medical-surgical departments vis-à-vis other hospital units (Patricia, 2020). It outlines the effect anxiety has on the health of both the nurses and the employees that work with them. The study therefore proposes mitigating measures such as integration of personal evidence-based surviving skills and abilities such as coloring mandalas as remedial to the management of anxiety (Patricia, 2020)..

Research and Design

The research design of the study determines the type of established convention that is best deemed to carry out the required analysis of the study. The given article embraces a descriptive approach which is an investigative research method that entails collection and analysis of data for the purpose of describing and analyzing the statement of the problem in its universal state. This research method is normally based on primary information which supports the study by clearly describing how crossover pre-test-posttest and quasi-experimental method was put together to find out whether coloring mandalas reduces state trait anxiety levels of medical practitioners vis-à-vis regular activities.

Sample

The targeted population sample for the study was forty participants composed of licensed practical nurses, unit clerks, and patient care technicians who worked on the department. The sample size was twenty participants and the sampling technique employed was stratified random sampling. This is because the targeted population consisted of different nurses and staff working in various units.

The data collection

 The data collection instrument used in the study was questionnaires; they were used to give participants a chance to answer the asked questions about the study.

The data analysis

The data analysis was then done using standard deviation technique which shows reliable results of the study.

Limitations of the study

One of the limitations of the study is that it lacks objectivity due to a small convenience sample used. This means the results cannot be universally applied to involve entire nurse fraternity.

Findings and discussion of the study

One of the findings from the study is that 75% of the study included 12PCTs, 75.7% 28 RNs, 80% 4 UCs, and one float pool RN. It is noted that 5 participants didn’t finish the two required sections of the study due to absenteeism. From this, I learnt that the analytical nature of the descriptive methods is best suited for primary research. One of the benefits of reading research literature is that it gives a researcher prior knowledge, and findings that can help reduce biasness, and prejudices. It enhances critical thinking abilities, and scientific literacy in the field of studies. It also makes the studies scientific and objective in nature hence reduces the idea of plagiarism and personal unverified information. What I have learnt in the study is that it is coloring pre-drawn mandalas helps to reduce anxiety levels both in medical-surgical nurses and their employees. It can therefore be used in nursing practices. I have also learnt that it is good to observe all the research steps that make it scientific and objective in nature. Furthermore, it is not right to universal the results of the study, instead, the findings of any study should be made specific to the subject matter of such study.
