School-Age Programs in Your Community
Step 1: Research Local Programs
You will investigate several local programs that offer after-school care. After investigating various programs, select three local programs to note specifically what services are offered by the programs. You may conduct research in person ( only if safety protocols are taken), by phone interviews, via the Internet, etc., on local school-age programs in your area. Fill in the chart below for the three local school-age programs.
Step 2: Reflection Written Assignment
Use the information you gathered in the above activity and what you have learned from Lesson 1, Chapter 1 reading to complete the following written assignment.
Write a three-paragraph reflection that addresses the following prompts and questions.
Paragraph 1: Based on the research information presented in the Chapter 1 reading in the text and other resources in the lesson, explain what parents and children desire in afterschool care.
Paragraph 2: Identify to what extent the three programs in your research meet the needs of parents and children based on the information in Chapter 1. Does each of the individual programs offer activities and services that you identified as preferred by parents and children?
Paragraph 3: Based on what you learned from Chapter 1 in the textbook, how do the three local programs you researched address and/or represent the political, economic, and sociological changes discussed in Chapter 1?
