The purpose of this expository paragraph is to introduce the concept to be investigated that abuse of children may lead to substance abuse and aggression during the later years at adulthood. The leading philosophy in this scenario is that the impact of abuse on children; especially during the early childhood years may have far reaching and lasting impacts on the rest of their lives. The scope of the expository essay is to investigate and report on whether child abuse may influence the affected children to abuse drugs and use illegal substances later on in life. In addition, the planned expository essay will determine on whether the experience of abuse at childhood years may increase the tendency of aggression in the affected person later on in life; with particular interest on the adulthood years.  Preliminary research highlights the following points. Roche (2017) established that children who experienced their maltreatment during their childhood years are also experience life-long consequences. Child maltreatment may include all forms of emotional and/or physical ill-treatment, negligent treatment, neglects, sexual abuse, commercial exploitation, and other forms of exploitations, which may lead to potential or actual harm of the child’s survival, health, dignity, and/or development (Roche, 2017).  Domestic violence and abuse children is prevalent in families that have experienced economic hardships, occupation changes, death of a family member, exposure to natural disasters, and domestic violence (Osofsky,  2018). The long term impacts of child abuse include high risk of substance abuse and aggression in the later years.
