Answer

Skill Development and Relevance

The primary objective of learning is to improve individuals holistically. At DeVry University, this objective is shaped towards helping an individual achieve lifelong career goals.   Hence, as a learner, I have significantly improved my skills in writing, researching, presenting, working in teams, and using technological tools, which I believe will be pivotal in my career as a software developer presently and in the future.

In my current role as a software developer, writing will be crucial in helping me write codes. Ideally, a software is developed by writing syntax in specific programming languages. Notably, syntax represents the primary way a programmer can set up a particular software to perform.  In the future, writing as a skill will help me communicate well with other stakeholders through emails, letters, and other written communication techniques. For instance, as a senior executive, I will be required to interact with various individuals daily, thereby creating a need to be competent in all forms of communication.

Researching as a composition skill will improve my understanding, knowledge and competency in my current role as a junior software developer. Notably, I will use the skill to research new programming approaches, thereby remaining updated regarding any technology sector changes. Moreover, I can research to find solutions to specific coding issues if standard techniques fail.  In the future, the ability to research will help me determine the gaps in the software market. Consequently, I can develop solutions to fill them. For instance, if I become a senior executive in my company, I will offer new projects ideas that seek to cater to existing needs. As a result, the organization will be hailed as being creative and conscious of people’s needs. Ideally, it is challenging to determine such needs and market conditions without carrying out substantial research.

Presenting is ideal for me as I can use it to showcase my work to others. As a freelance software developer, I often create programs that can be useful if implemented on a global scale.  In this regard, using effective presentation skills will help me acquire relevant stakeholders’ support to push the programs. In the future, presentation will help me relate well with internal and external stakeholders while ensuring that my organization’s performance is at appropriate levels. For instance, the way I will present myself to customers and executives will appeal to them in equal measures.

Teamwork will help me complete tasks with more ease in my current occupation. Notably, as a software developer, some programs require significant input to complete. Thus, if done by a single individual, it may take longer. However, when a teamwork approach is adopted, the timeframes are significantly reduced. In the future, teamwork will help me improve my work and personal relationship with other individuals.  Primarily, close interactions in teams will have a positive impact on enhancing understanding and cooperation.

Currently, the use of technological tools will help me improve my competence as a software developer. Notably, I will manage to create programs since almost all of them are developed on computers.  Similarly, the skill will help simplify my work through automation, which enhances flexibility. Also, in the future, the increasing adoption of technology means that I will use the skill to keep up with changes in my line of work, communicate with others through emails, phones, and also hold virtual meetings through features such as zoom. Similarly, competency in using technological tools will be essential in helping scale my services as I could provide them remotely.

Conclusively, the advanced composition course has been insightful to me. Notably, I have gained and improved myself in skills such as writing, researching, presenting, working in teams, and using technological tools. I believe that each of these competencies will be essential in my career in both the short and long and run.
