Week 3 Discussion: Stability and Governing

A stable government is a state with the capacity to ensure its citizens have access to essential services. This includes security, adherence to the rule of law and lack of discrimination without having to depend on assistance of the international community. Such a government is also a good steward to state resources (TEXBOOK). It implies that such a government must put in place competent personnel and institute checks and balances in the utilization of a state’s economic resources for the benefit of the entire population. Watts (2012) also posits that a stable government must have the capacity to promote political moderation and accountability. For instance, the government should be able to settle political differences and engage its citizens in national dialogue and address any challenge that could be facing it.

In line with the core aspects of a stable government highlighted above, it is clear that America is a stable government.  For instance, it has continued to realize rapid growth in its economic strength in the recent past which is attributed to strength of its national security. The nation boasts of a military whose might, technology and geostrategic reach cannot be matched by any country in the world. Besides, the U.S Department of Interior, has over and over demonstrated its commitment to fulfilling its mission of protecting the glorious heritage of the people of America. According to their website, they are committed to protecting the national heritage so that the future generation may also enjoy the diversity of the lands which are uniquely American. However, in regard to political accountability and  ability of the government to amicable settle political differences, the U.S government is found to be lacking the necessary competency, this is in line with President Trump’s election which many people still believe Russia had a hand in swinging the U. S elections in Trump’s favor. This is a manifestation that for American to remain stable, policy makers must come up with sound policies pertaining elections.
