Answer

Application of Statistics in Healthcare Research

Healthcare services are prone to novel discoveries in terms of disorders complications and advancement in technology. As a result, healthcare providers have considerably focused on the improvement of patients’ care at an affordable cost. Subsequently, the providers carry out clinical research to aid in a statistical analysis of the collected information and to improve the quality of the services. This paper, therefore, differentiates between research and quality improvement. Additionally, it provides a workplace example, application, and use of qualitative and quantitative research in a healthcare organization.

Research is a systematic and methodological approach to scientific processes designed to develop and implement knowledge to achieve an impartial goal. Typically, it involves data collection, analysis, and interpretation of the collected data (Gregory, 2015). In contrast, quality improvement is – a less laborious –  systematic procedure and a data-guided exercise that is designed to apply known solutions to chief problem or process that deals with cost, efficiency in production and quality improvement (Gregory, 2015). Characteristically, it involves system improvement.

Qualitative research is an investigative study aimed at collecting non-numeric and observable data. A workplace example is a laboratory research on corona virus to understand its replication sequence to comprehend its strains, prevention, and treatment of the viral illness. On the other hand, quantitative research is a numerical and graph analysis study in confirmation of theories and assumptions to derive an approach. A workplace example of research is an investigation to quantify the number of coronavirus infections and deaths to contain and control the spread of the disease. The use and application of qualitative research in my workplace, a healthcare organization, is a laboratory procedure to understand the viral replication of coronavirus to find its vaccine; while the use and application of quantitative research in the healthcare organization is analyzing the number of deaths and cases to project its prevalence.
