QUESTION

Strategic Management of Health Care Organization

INTRODUCTION
For healthcare organizations to be sustainable in the future, there is a need to have skilled leaders who will effectively plan for potential problems. In the next five years, healthcare leaders should be prepared to encounter a series of challenges that may impact its strategic objectives. Challenges such as medicinal advancement, technological advancement, changes in policies, funding, and many others should be expected and properly prepared for by the team.
The healthcare regulatory challenges should be anticipated since policy makers are constantly introducing new laws to help in improving patient outcomes. Regulatory challenges are an important considering given the fact that they end up increasing costs of care services. For instance, there may be new reporting requirements which may be quite expensive. To overcome these challenges, the healthcare provider will need to actively consider engaging in awareness and regular information sharing. Compliance training should be implemented as the leaders also adopt a culture of carrying out routine audits.
Other challenges feature medicinal and technological advancements. Opportunities and challenges have created new ways in which healthcare providers practice medicine. The physician shortages and the need for low cost alternatives to office visits and the inpatient care are being experienced. Therefore, it is expected that five years from now, there will be a shift from the traditional office visits and pre-screening to other virtual forms of interactions between doctors and their patients. However, this works best when treating simple illnesses such as colds and sprains. However, retrieving patient records and caring for chronic illnesses will remain a challenge.
Lastly, training and education challenges may also be experienced. Healthcare leaders need to constantly improve their skills so that it is up to date with the current requirements. The future healthcare environment will feature a more hands-off approach that will require the physician to involve patients a lot more in the personal care process.
In conclusion, the healthcare managers need to be able to offer guidance and direction within the organization, with regards to roles, responsibilities, and functions. The devised strategy needs to be one that everyone can follow and understand. The strategies should not only ensure patient satisfaction, but also address the performance target achievement

    Strategic Management of Healthcare Organizations

    Opportunity

Across the world, almost every healthcare organization is struggling with the increasing healthcare costs and uneven insurance cover policies. The challenge of becoming a value-based healthcare institution necessitates patients, healthcare strategies, employers, healthcare providers, and the administrative department to review the policies and the procedures of Medicare and Medicaid, which often reimburse at a fraction of private plan standards (Meyers, Durfey, Gadbois & Thomas, 2019). The administrative department at Vision Healthcare Institute has implemented approaches that encourage their patients to consider applying for healthcare cover, particularly the Medicare Advantage cover for optic treatment. The organization is likely to experience reimbursement changes when patients utilize Medicare Advantage for eye therapy.

    Analysis

The administrative department at Vision Healthcare institute deems Medicare Advantage as a problem solver, given that it creates an opportunity for community members to access safe and quality eye care services. Studies indicate that the policy a supplemental Medicare Advantage can cover not only vision treatment but also dental and hearing complexities for different individuals (Meyers et al., 2019). Medicare Advantage plan ensures that members of the community receive additional care services that are not provided in the Original Medicare and Medicaid plan. According to the managers of Vision Healthcare organizations, patients receive extra services through employer-sponsored health insurance or utilizing the Medicare Advantage plan.

Medicare Advantage plan for eye treatment allows patients to benefit from services such as frequent eye checkups, provision of glasses as well as therapy sessions with healthcare providers. Experts from Vision Healthcare institute indicate that these services are often not included in the Original Medicare plan. Therefore, introducing this strategy to the organization will benefit not only the patients but also the organization given that Medicare Advantage ensures that all healthcare organization is properly reimbursed (Duggan, Starc & Vabson, 2016). Medicare Advantage plan is designed to cover all healthcare services that Original Medicare covers. Normally, Original Medicare is known to cover the cost of hospice care and some expenses for clinical evaluation for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries (Newman-Casey et al., 2018). The five-year strategy implemented by the administrative department of Vision Healthcare indicates that by utilizing Medicare Advantage, members will be covered for emergency and immediate required eye treatment.

    Assumptions

Although Medicare Advantage is deemed as a problem solver for patients who cannot access safe and quality optic care due to their financial circumstances, each Medicare Advantage plan can charge different out-of-pocket charges and can have various policies for how beneficiaries receive healthcare services. These policies can decide whether a patient necessitates referrals to be observed by a specialist or whether the beneficiaries have to see in-network physicians, facilities, or resources for non-emergency care (Duggan, Starc & Vabson, 2016). While Medicare Advantage strategy can decide not to cover the expenses of certain unapproved or elective healthcare services, patients can appeal the verdict.

Beneficiaries or the service providers have an opportunity to request, observe, and evaluate a service or item that is to be insured by Medicare Advantage before implementation (Duggan, Starc & Vabson, 2016). Leaders from Vision Healthcare institute have noted that a significant fraction of Medicare Advantage plans is recognized to provide additional coverage. Moreover, its premiums are often considered to be experiencing a constant decline (Newman-Casey et al., 2018). The organization’s leaders indicate that out-of-pocket expenses in Medicare Advantage rely on whether the cover is paid on a monthly basis or if the plan pays for every incident that the patient encounters.

    Open issues

Leaders at Vision Health care institute emphasize that the restriction imposed by the insurance organizations play a significant role in preventing the patient from accessing safe and quality eye therapy. For instance, individuals covered by private insurance companies do not receive the same treatment as people covered by Medicare or Medicaid (Newman-Casey et al., 2018).  This is because those covered by private insurance organizations can access extended services, including the healthcare organization providing glasses for the beneficiaries.

                                                                   Recommendation

One way to ensure that all individuals, regardless of economic status, race, religion, or ethnicity, are accessing quality and safe eye care is through encouraging the community members and the patients to apply for eye care insurance coverage. Researchers indicate that a significant fraction of community members fail to access safe and quality care due to their economic circumstances (Duggan, Starc & Vabson, 2016). Leaders at Vision healthcare should ensure that they collaborate with different insurance organizations and develop policies that ensure affordable care for all individuals while enhancing the organization’s productivity.

The healthcare organization should consider adapting the Medicare Advantage program, given that it offers extra services compared to Original Medicare and Medicaid. Implementing the Medicare advantage is essential since it not only carters for significant activities such as eye surgery and medications but also includes simple services such as overseeing frequent eye checkups and provision of glasses (Meyers et al., 2019). Conclusively, to ensure that all community members can access safe and quality eye treatment, leaders from Vision healthcare organization is obliged to form education programs that inform patients about the benefits they can attain from Medicare Advantage.
