Answer
What are some of the cautions to be aware of when using teams?
Even though teams are effective in organizational management, they sometimes come with certain disadvantages that team leaders must ensure they take care of. For instance, working with teams consume more time when working individually (Thornton, 2017). Some team members would not keep time hence dragging the rest considering that a team must move together in terms of decision making and submission of projects. Teams also make it difficult for the organization to conduct performance appraisal hence it becomes difficult to know the employees who work effortlessly and those whose contribution are not building the organization. It is difficult because team take credit and failure jointly and not individually (Thornton, 2017). There is also likely to be joyriders in teams, a group of employees who would spend more time doing irrelevant things because they know they share both credit and failure with the rest of team members. Teams also interfere with the productivity of individuals who are talented in working alone, which might impact the overall productivity of the organization. Teams might also negatively impact on organization`s integration due to blame and responsibility issues during challenges (Thornton, 2017). For example, some team members are likely to apportion blame on others when the team fails to meet its objectives and would want such employees to take responsibility.
Team assessment is the most suitable test for determining I a team fits into the situation for which it was formed. It would be effective for the team leader to look at the team objectives and goals to analyze if the team has achieved such objectives (Thornton, 2017). The assessment would tell the leader if the team is up to the task or not. The team leader can conduct such assessment individually but it is important to invite an outside assessor to conduct the evaluation. However, the team leader must be careful when inviting an outsider to asses the team because the said assessor can be someone with little skills.
The three categories of team effectiveness model
The three categories of an effective team according to model implies that a team should spend little time, cost and use few resources to achieve it goals and objectives. Contrary to what most people believe, an effective team does not need more resources to work or to achieve it goals (Urinov, 2020). It only becomes effective when it can use the few resources under its disposal to realize its objectives. Also, they must spend far much little time to realize their objectives and goals (Urinov, 2020). However, the time must not be so little that the team works under extreme pressure when not necessary. All the three components must be able to produce a team that communicates, works effectively and also coordinates its activities.
