- QUESTION
The owner of Work Now, a nonprofit job referral agency, has asked a few of his employees (you and your fellow group members) for help and recommendations. In the current economy employers seeking to fill professional positions are reluctant to hire applicants direct to full-time. Instead they prefer to hire though temporary agencies (like yours) so they can evaluate employees and be selective about which one(s) to hire full time. This is called temp-to-fulltime.
Because this is the largest trend in temporary hiring (temp-to-fulltime) Work Now wants to not only understand this process (so they can help their clients) but also identify other methods by which applicants can find fulltime employment. The goal is to increase the number of fulltime hires from individuals who have contracted for Work Now’s services (both prospective applicants and employers).
Part 1: Complete research on temp-to-fulltime and prepare a written statement (3-4 paragraphs) that Work Now can give to applicants so they can better understand this trend.
Part 2: Aside from temp-to-full time the group must identify and discuss 3-4 methods that job hunters can use to find fulltime employment. Include specifics defining each method and explaining what the job applicant needs to accomplish in order to be successful using each.
Part 3: Make recommendations to the owner of Work Now identifying how the information in Part 1 & Part 2 can be distributed to applicants in a format that is easy to understand. Make sure you explain “why†this methodology is the best for both Work Now and for the job seeker.

Answer
Question 1: Temp-to-Fulltime
Temp-to-fulltime is a new trend of hiring that allows employers to evaluate staff through temporary work before they hire them for fulltime work. It is advantageous to job seekers since it allows them to sample various positions before making their final career decisions (Robert Half Company, 2016). The popularity of temp- perm is shown by the millions who go to work daily as temporary employees.
Temporary to permanent work is a method of hiring that allows employers to hire individuals who fit perfectly with the requirement of particular positions. Employers also have the advantage of avoiding common human resources problems such as overstaffing, costly retraining, and layoffs.
Temporary work has several benefits to those seeking positions. The first advantage is that it provides the potential candidates for fulltime jobs with an opportunity to explore career, and attain flexible work schedules, develop skills, and widen job search network and transition into fulltime positions (Robert Half Company, 2016). Temporary work also enables the individuals to focus on other life interest. For example, a person employed on a temporary basis can continue furthering his/her education.
Temp-to-permanent is also an employment option that provides valuable experience for the candidate’s resume. Many executives who sit on interview panel consider long periods of temporary work comparable to full-time employment (Robert Half Company, 2016). Temp-perm also provides prospective candidates with an opportunity to impress employers. Employers take this opportunity to gauge whether prospective candidates meets the requirements of more permanent positions.
Question 2: Methods to get a full-time position
Start Anywhere
Candidates should agree to start working at any position that is offered even if it does not befit their dream job. According to Robert Half Company (2016), candidates who are employed in some position are more exposed to available job opportunities than those who wait for job opportunities to become available. Working in any capacity also allows the candidate to build valuable networks he can use to get a fulltime position. To get a fulltime position a candidates should make other people aware of the skills he possess and the kind of job he aspires to have.
Freelancing
If you have the skills to do independent work and market it to employersor organizations, you should start by freelancing. Freelancers are independent self-employed persons who are not committed to one particular employee (Peart, 2014). Freelancersmostly excel in areas where creative work is needed such as art, music, screenwriting and publishing. A freelancer should follow the following guidelines if he hopes to attain fulltime work:
- Present great work to the client
- Beat deadlines
- Make the employer aware of interest in permanent position.
Volunteering
Volunteering is also an option where an employee offers his services to an organization for free. Most volunteers end up being absorbed by the organizations they are volunteering for once permanent opportunities become available (Villano, n.d). To convert a volunteer ship opportunity into a permanent job you should (Villano, n.d):
- Work Hard; make the employer think they cannot live without you.
- Be serious about work: Dress officially, arrive on time and do not leave before time and take any tasks given to you very seriously
- Be Up front: inform your boss your goal is full-time work and also outline the skills and knowledge that you posses.
Internship
Internship is a suitable method of gaining practical experience, but few consider it a method that can be used to land a permanent position (Hansen, n.d). Interns can convert the opportunity into a permanent position by making a great impression, making themselves indispensable, and building strong relationships with other employees of the organization.
Question 3: Presenting information to Job seekers
The Organization can present the information to job seekers by sending them a brochures by email. These should be compelling and should include creative use of graphics and pictures. This mode of information sharing would most appeal to job seekers due to its multiple functionalities that would support various types of media manipulations, graphics, and presentable information output.
