- QUESTION
This week, you read about the rise of "Jacksonian democracy" as part of the political backdrop for social and cultural changes taking place in the growing nation. How is Jacksonian democracy different than Jeffersonian democracy? What does Jackson's views on issues like Indian removal reveal about his understanding of the role of the federal government? I'm also interested in hearing your responses to the documents this week. Does the Trail of Tears impact your perspective of Jackson's presidency? (Please note that you will include your points regarding to this week's documents, not the chapter texts only)

Answer
The Jacksonian Democracy- The Trail of Tears
The Jacksonian Democracy defines the political and social ideas that shaped the presidency period of Andrew Jackson between 1829 and 1837. The Democracy is a reflection of an effort to approach as closely as possible the literal definition and meaning of the common phrase “of the people, by the people, and for the people” (Roark & James, 2017). The central idea of democracy was that citizens should be granted a greater power in government, and create a wider sense of equality: equality of opportunity (Roark & James, 2017). Jeffersonian Democracy, dissimilar to its Jacksonian Democracy counterpart, did not give voting rights to vast citizens. Under the Jeffersonian Democracy, voters were still required to meet particular landholding requirements, although those requirements were more relaxed than they had been. Moreover, Jeffersonian Democracy offered vast economic advantages and opportunities to farmers, a program that the Jacksonian democracy kept procrastinating.
As one of his reforms, Jackson advocated for the removal of Indian tribes in the US to the west of the Mississippi River. This was a devastating decision during his term in the federal government. He said that assimilating other tribes into the white society had failed and he was afraid that the way of life of the Native Americans would eventually be destroyed (Roark & James, 2017). The efforts of the opposition groups to fights against Jackson’s policy had failed which led to the authorization of the Indian Removal Act back in 1831, and made treaties with the tribes in arranging for their major displacements. In his notion, Jackson thought that the role of the government was to enact policies that exclusively defended the Native Americans at the expense of the wellbeing of other tribes.
Generally, the Trail of Tears has impacted my perspective of Jackson’s presidency because it is characterized by incidences of suffering, unfairness, and mistreatment of populations that were not of Native American origin. Although he had previously railed against government corruption, Jackson had ignored all shady treaties that were forced upon various tribes as well as the corrupt actions of top government officials. The Native American life was greatly lost following this corruption, removal by force as well as inadequate supplies to the citizens.downsides, hence facilitating an effective engagement process.
