Answer
Schizophrenia Case Study
Positive symptoms experienced by Chase due an active psychotic state associated with schizophrenia include extreme paranoia, hallucinations, disorganized speech, racing thoughts, and delusions. Negative schizophrenia symptoms presented by Chase include asociality, social withdrawal anhedonia, apathy and diminished expression. Social withdrawal may have made paranoid ideation and hallucinations to be more pronounced (Carra et al., 2018). The interviewer handled the conversation with Chase in a calm, understanding, and professional manner. The interviewer was able to convince the patient that she was in Chase’s side to keep him talking and responding to her questions. The interviewer was able to let Chase to talk uninterrupted and listened keenly in a non-judgmental manner. In addition, she talked in a simple manner, with use of short sentences, and in a slow manner. She did not panic. Besides, her focus was on understanding Chase and her condition rather than on treatment, medications, and the diagnosis (Martins et al., 2015). If I interacted with such as client, I would feel scared, threatened, and be uncertain of his reactions since he seems unpredictable. In addition, I may become sympathetic with his condition and perception of the world and be forced to educate him that his perception of the world has been impaired by the disease. However, the interviewer has given me an insight on how to conduct an interview that involves a psychotic patient.
