The Roles and Responsibilities of Women in Ancient Greece

           Ancient Greece was a society where women had no rights of any kind. More specifically, they had no political privileges and morality. Consequently, their men took sole responsibility for controlling their every single level lives. Notably, the women’s ideal role and responsibility that was limited to them. Therefore, this essay analyzes the ideal role and responsibilities of a woman in ancient Greece, including how she is supposed to behave. Moreover, it evaluates her limitations in the way she should be carrying out her role.

           The ideal role of a woman in ancient Greece is to submit to her husband. The submission includes solely giving birth to the children. Additionally, the submission role entails respecting and obeying their husbands. Besides, her responsibilities include; being a fair mother to the children, she knits love in her husband, and stand with him when he is sick.  Moreover, the limitation of women in Ancient Greece was that they would only discharge their role as directed by their husbands. Therefore, women’s roles were within their ability since they would only give birth and look after the households as their husbands went to work to provide. More importantly, they were also required to submit – respect and obey their men.

           In conclusion, the women’s ideal role and responsibility that were limited to their men. Therefore, their sole role was to give birth and submit to their husbands. Additionally, the responsibility of an ancient Greece woman included playing the motherly role and being the source of love for her husband. These responsibilities and the role was within their limits.
