  Sermon on the Mount

  The Sermon on the Mount led to a beginning of a new moon in the moral universe and has wielded its own force of gravity to date. In my opinion, Yancey meant that Jesus made the law hard for us to follow and charged us to observe it. For instance, every society has a law against those committing murder, but no person or community has ever come up with an expanded Jesus’s law on murder. Therefore this indicates that the Sermon generated a series of new morals that are currently guiding most activities in our communities.

  Most church leaders have interpreted the Sermon on the Mount in various ways, including on ideals or the grace of God. According to Yancey, the teachings of Jesus suffused on the Gospel and the ideals of God as Jesus was always noted, saying that be perfect like God was. Similarly, in the same Sermon Jesus extended his grace by forgiving the adulterous woman and the thief on the cross. This has made most movements and church leaders have a common interpretation of the Sermon on the Mount that before God, we are all equal. Also, the problem that most movements and leaders are facing is how to turn the Sermon of the Mount into a form of legalism.

              One of the beatitudes is “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.” The people described in this beatitude stand firm on preaching God’s word and are continuously rebuked by others. For instance, Stephen ,Peter and Paul, and other apostles suffered martyrdom in the Roman era. Also, the qualities of commended include commitment and faithfulness to Jesus. Besides, it promises those persecuted that the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them for standing for righteousness and defending God.
