Thesis and Outline: Drug Abuse among Teenagers
Thesis
Drug abuse among teenagers should be abolished because it negatively impacts their physical and educational development, accounts for numerous youth-related deaths, and negatively impacts their adulthood.
Outline
Introduction
Background: Recent years witnessing increasing tendencies of substance and alcohol exploitation among teens and learners (Ahmad, 2016).
Increasing cases of substance or drug abuse among the youth is associated with negative impacts among the youth and society as whole (Ahmad, 2016).
Thesis Statement: drug abuse among teenagers should be abolished because it negatively impacts their physical and educational development, accounts for numerous youth-related deaths, and negatively impacts their adulthood.
1st Topic Sentence: Drug abuse negatively affects the educational and physical development of the youth
Supporting Statement: Substance abuse results in school underperformance, early pregnancy, juvenile delinquency, and depression (Chakravarthy et al., 2013).
2nd Topic Sentence: Drug abuse among teenagers accounts for several death cases of this population.
Supporting statement: The alcohol abuse and illegal prescription drugs are still a main health issue globally (Chakravarthy et al., 2013). In 2011, 211,000 youth-related deaths caused by drug abuse (Somani & Meghani, 2016)
3rd Topic Sentence: The abuse of drugs by the youth negatively impact their adult life
Supporting statement: Youths who engage in drug abuse at tender age become drug addicts during their adult life, which in turn results in the damages households and the community at large (Somani & Meghani, 2016; Nahvizadeh et al., 2014)
Counter Argument: Not all drugs used by the youth are harmful, as some such as marijuana have medicinal properties.
Refuting the Contrary Argument: The abuse of any drug is associated with negative effects on human wellbeing and health, and there is no mechanism established to regulate drug use among the youth in their private spheres (Pednekar, 2016).
Conclusion
Drug abuse should be eradicated as it impacts the youth’s physical and educational development in a negative manner, results in numerous deaths among the youth, and negatively affects the adult life of the youths.
