Answer

Toxoplasmosis is an infectious disease caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii that attacks warm blooded animals. Toxoplasmosis occurs as either acquired toxoplasmosis or congenital toxoplasmosis. Congenital toxoplasmosis manifests itself when it infects an unborn baby within their mother’s womb (now that you just have one page, and you are supposed to address acquired toxoplasmosis, is this vital or page filler??. Why not focus on what you are supposed to address???) whereas acquired toxoplasmosis is manifested when a host harboring the disease-causing parasite spreads it to an organism. This paper focuses on acquired toxoplasmosis.

            The cat is the most common host for Toxoplasma gondii. A cat contracts the parasite by eating contaminated meat. The parasite’s procreation cycle starts in the cat’s digestive tract. Consumed bradyzoites develop micro gametocytes and macro gametocytes which in turn fuse resulting into zygotes. The zygotes are then enclosed by a wall and egested as oocysts amongst the fecal material. The zygote divides into sporozoites which are immediately infectious moments after being shed as part of the fecal matter. The infection rate of toxoplasmosis is higher in individuals with HIV/AIDS than in healthy individuals. The recurrence of the parasite is also higher in individuals older than 40 years. Which question does this address? While this is informative, you are limited by page so again, you want to be direct b addressing directly what has been asked. As asked.

            Signs and symptoms that can be noted in healthy people include; aching of the body, swelling of the lymph nodes, fatigue.  Bodies with weak immunity further experience seizures, blurry vision and respiratory conditions. Infants may experience enlargement of the spleen and jaundice. Signs manifest as relapse in weakened immunity and disabling complications in children such as deafness, loss of sight and mental disorders.

            Diagnosis of toxoplasmosis depends on serological testing. WHY?? (Check questions and thoroughly answer every bit, EXPLICITLY/DIRECTLY: explain why serology is used for diagnosis in comparison to other available testing methods). Antigen and antibody detecting tests are conducted as part of the serological testing. IgM antibodies can be detected about seven days after infection, but this alone is not sufficient to detect an infection. IgA antibodies mark an acute infection as they are produced before the IgM antibodies.

So many questions left unanswered: keenly check parts of questions. For such, avoid wondering/extraneous information. Since its just one page, directly address the task at hand. Address the task from the word go and avoid what could be thought of as fillers, just filling your page and not adding value to the task, real task at hand: e.g. the blue could be thought as fillers. Unless you really need them…ensure each of the following is EXPLICITLY addressed;

  • Briefly introduce the infectious agent and the disease signs and symptoms related to the assigned topic
  • Explain why serology is used for diagnosis in comparison to other available testing methods.
  • Identify one serological based assay that is useful in the diagnosis of the disease
  • and explain the basics of the method (how it works, not a step by step procedure),
  • the limitations
  • and the interpretation
  • As well as the clinical relevance (is it diagnostic of the disease or a screening test).

Please ensure every bullet and even sub bullet explicitly addressed.

In conclusion, toxoplasmosis is a parasitic infection hosted by cats and all warm blooded organisms are susceptible to the infection. Individuals with a weak immune system are at higher risk of complications than healthy individuals. This infection can easily be transmitted from an expectant mother to the child. Signs are symptoms are more pronounced in the elderly population than in the youths.
