The American people know about the trade bills being considered through various means including information listed in the GPO (Government Printing Office). This source lists the bills that are under review in Congress, and the American including news outlets get information before spreading it even further in the community. The trade bills are often part of the listed bills, and the American people can receive information about them. This insinuates that the media also plays a critical part in disseminating information about Congressional activities including trade bills that are before it.
One of the current trade bills that is under review involves H.R 3662 –the Iran Terror Finance Transparency Act (GPO, 2016). This bill provides for increased oversight over American trade as well as economic sanctions with respect to Iranian terrorism financiers. As an example, the bill seeks to accelerate congressional oversight over the manner in which the Treasury Department in the United States licenses business to carryout business in Iran. Worth noting, is that for over two decades Congress has increasingly sought to regulate trade as well as economic relations with Iran as evidenced by sanctions against the country.
I think that the bill is good for the public welfare. More so, the bill seeks to enact additional obstructions to the lifting of sanctions through limiting Executive branch powers. Iran has been a major concern around the world due to alleged illegal economic activities including support for terrorism, and it is in public interest that the executive branch of the government should not handle such an important issue on its own. For this reason, the bill emerges as good for the public welfare as it has their interests at heart.
