Answer

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Screening

The title of the course project is “Developments in airport security screening measures on crime reduction”.

The main issues for discussion will include:

  • The trends in the development of new screening technologies in airports and their impacts on security
  • The level of engagement in promoting airport security; including efforts by government agencies to enhance security
  • The security threat level paused to the airports and the country by the movement of people and goods
  • Crime level in the country with the implementation of airport screening security measures

Since the 9/11 U.S. attack, there have been concerted efforts by the Government and security agencies to ensure that security lapses never again occurs (Yoo, 2009). The attacks prompted the establishment of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to focus on approaches to ensure security across all transportation corridors (Transport Security Administration, 2017).  Security of country overrides any other issues, hence the quest to secure entry points. Crime is also imported into a country through complacence and ineffective security screening measures at the airports.

The topic relate to the course outline because it dwells on the various important aspects in transport sector. Security and aspect of law are covered.  Screening initiatives and policies are subjected to scrutiny before the House of Parliament and the Senate passes them (Transport E-research Cicircular, 2013). Therefore, security aspects of the transport sector gets its mandate from legislations and policies, which often are subjected to scrutiny on their effectiveness in combating crime and promoting security of the people and the country (Ploch, Děkan & Zýka, 2015).

The topic relates to criminal justice because it has the concept of crime. Police enforcement is critical at any airport to arrest, probe and prosecute, detain any criminal offenders.
