Trees for Pollution Control (TPC) Organization

1.0              Name of Organization

Trees for Pollution Control (TPC) Charity is seeking approval and registration as a Kuwait based not-for-profit organization. The name of the organization is inspired by various reports lamenting the high rate of environmental pollution in Kuwait. In particular, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that the country has an unsafe air quality. Recent data shows that the annual mean concentration of particulate matter Particulate Matter (PM2.5) gas is 61 µg/m3 (International Association for Medical Assistance to Travelers (IAMAT), 2020). This figure is six times higher than the recommended optimal concentration of 10 µg/m3. The poor quality of air in the country results from the overdependence on fossil fuels to power industrial processes, oil refineries, vehicles, and oil refineries. The highest concentration of PM2.5 is normally reported in Summer and Winter with cities such as Saad Al-Abdullah/ Al-Jahra and Al-Ahmadi having the highest levels of pollution (IAMAT 2020). These empirical findings inform the inspiration to come up with a charity that will promote tree planting, conservation and recycling.

2.0              Project Summary

The Trees for Pollution Control is a charity organization seeking to be registered, approved and funded for the purpose of encouraging tree conservation and management. In the process, it will play a significant role in improving the air quality in Kuwait. Currently, the air quality is six times higher than the recommended concentration levels. This calls for immediate action and collaborative action from government ministries, agencies, volunteers, and well-wishers. This project outlines the purpose of the organization, location and hours of operations, suppliers and equipment required, advertising strategy, public relations and a letter of transmittal that will help pool resources from different financers.

3.0              Information on the Organization

3.1              Purpose of the Organization

The primary purpose of TPC is to advocate for extensive afforestation and greening of Kuwait. Schwarzer (2019) emphasizes that trees play a vital role in storing carbon, giving oxygen and stabilizing soils. In addition, they shelter to wildlife and provide human beings with raw materials for industrial processes. Because of these functions, it is quintessential that a country maintains a high level of tree coverage.

Other purposes of the organization include creating awareness on greening and afforestation. Providing data and information on environmental and air quality. The data will be collected through environmental quality assessments which will be forwarded to respective ministries and agencies for action to reduce pollution levels. Third, the charity seeks to create awareness on the state of air quality in the country and encourage more individual and corporate volunteers to support the initiative. Fourth, the charity purposes to work with forestry research organizations around the globe, namely Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and International Tree Foundation (ITF) to introduce tree varieties suited for the desert conditions in Kuwait (ITF 2020). Fifth, TPC purposes to work with organizations using trees as raw materials to help in enforcing current policies on tree conservation and encourage recycling and upcycling of tree products.

3.2              Location and Hours of Operation

The Trees for Pollution Control headquarters will be located in As-Salimiyah. This decision is seconded by the need for the main offices to maintain proximity to the largest cities with the highest number of people and companies. This decision will enable the organization to reach the highest number of people while creating awareness and also, attract many volunteers and sponsors. However, it will have 6 regional offices around the country especially in Saad Al-Abdullah/ Al-Jahra and Al-Ahmadi which are the most polluted cities (Mongabay, 2020). The charity will use rented premises. Mostly a spacious single room that is partitioned to accommodate two to three employees. The official working hours will be from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on weekdays and 8.30 am to noon on Saturday.

3.3              Supplies and Equipment

The headquarter and the regional offices will require supplies such as office furniture and office supplies, machines, networking equipment, hardware, software and electronic gadgets and tools. The organization will use rental car hire services whenever necessary.

3.4              Advertising

Trees for Pollution Control Organization will extensively use social media to create awareness and inform the public of its existence. The process will begin with the creation of social media pages on Facebook which is used by 79% of the Kuwait population, followed by YouTube which commands 8% of the social media market share, Twitter with 7% followers, and Pinterest which has a market share of 3.41% (GlobalStats, 2020). Secondly, the company will create video advertisements and audios to broadcast during prime-time news and through radio outlets around the country. These initiatives will create awareness on the charity and inform the public of its purposes and goals.

3.5              Public Relations

In addition to advertisements, there is need for public relation campaigns to endear the charity to the stakeholders, volunteers and potential partners. The public relations will focus more on corporate social responsibility and grassroot campaigns in the areas most affected by pollution. Other public relation initiatives will be through online fundraisers, donor conventions, and charity nights. The public will be assured that all the contributions made with go into tree planting and conservation initiatives.

Dear Sir/ Madam

Re: Request for Financing of Trees for Pollution Control Charity

Over the past three decades, the Kuwait government has promoted extensive afforestation initiatives that have seen the country’s forest cover increase tremendously from the lowest value ever recorded in 1990 where the country’s forest cover was 0.194% of the total land area. By 2016, the country had the highest forest coverage at 0.351% (Index Mundi, 2020). In spite of the positive outcome, Kuwait continues to report the worst air quality in the world. This is attributed to manmade and natural activities.

It is upon this basis that the Trees for Pollution Control Charity purposes to step in to help increase the forest cover and mitigate the air quality challenge. This process requires concerted efforts and collaboration among different agencies to finance and provide consultative support. We therefore request the ministry to support this initiative through annual financing of our budgets amounting to $12,000 for the first year.

Thank you in advance

Yours sincerely

Salutations.
, hence failitating an effective engagement process.
