Answer

Unit VI Question VI Question 4: Industrial Hygiene

The purpose of this paper is to summarize the abilities and characteristics of noise dosimeters and sound level meters (SLMs). Noise dosimeters are shoulder mounted devices that provide convenient and ergonomic measurement. Dosimeters are designed for exceptional ease of use, are light weight, and rugged. Available options offered by dosimeters include Bluetooth connectivity to mobile Apps, safe mode, and can measure three industry standards in a simultaneous manner. SLM is a hand-held precision integrated device for measuring noise levels. SLMs allows for documentation and analysis of noise exposure across different octave bands and environments. SLMs provide average sound pressures over time. Both noise dosimeters and SLMs are ideal for measurement of noise levels in applications such as commercial construction, commercial demolition and equipment, military, road construction, industrial manufacturing, and urban areas, and oil and gas and downstream refineries (TSI Incorporated, 2020). Noise monitoring is important for monitoring noise induced hearing loss. The two devices are used for maintaining healthy hearing environments for employees (Cook-Cunningham, 2014). The noise dosimeter that measure noise exposure and reports the dosage accumulated over a period of time.  (Smalt et al., 2017).
