Use of Technology in Gathering Patient and Healthcare Information
Healthcare firms are increasingly embracing the use of technology to collect healthcare information. For instance, my firm relies on the use of computerized physician order entry systems to collect fundamental information about patients and health care information related to medication orders. Additionally, the technology is also used to collect information associated with the patients’ consultations and reports.
Directing Patient Care and Outcomes
The information collected is effective in directing patient care and outcomes in various ways. Notably, the details collected are effective in reducing cases of medication error. The use of technology to collect health information makes it possible for physicians to rely on electronic prescription systems that are desirable in curbing instances of a medication error, thus preventing cases of adverse events. According to Alotaibi and Federico (2017), EHRs are established in a way that they can reduce medication errors by compiling the collected patient information and ensuring that it can all be easily accessed under a single record.
The information is also desirable in improving the patient-care services by ensuring that the patients are highly included in their care decisions and processes. The inclusion improves the patient outcomes by increasing the compliance levels and their level of satisfaction in the provided services (Alotaibi & Federico, 2017). Moreover, the technology is effective in improving patient-centered care by encouraging communication between patients and the care providers through various avenues such as the use of emails. Moreover, this also increases the rate at which patient data is accessed, which further improves the capacity of the patients to indulge in self-monitoring at the patient’s convenience (Alotaibi & Federico, 2017).
