Answer
#1 – VISUAL / SYMBOLIC IMAGES EXERCISE – Please comment on at least 2 images.
I am going to attached two images with this order. Please comments on those images accordingly. DO NOT USE ANY OUTSIDE SOURCE PLEASE.
# 1. Image
This image displays the brutality of the colonial forces against slaves. Specifically, the image shows how the back of a black man had been left with bruises because of the violence that was meted on him. The visible marks demonstrate the amount and extent of violence that was used by the slave traders against the slaves. In my view, such a use of force is both illegal and unethical. All human beings should be treated in the same way and people should not be subjected to violence because of the color of their skin. It is immoral for people to beat others up because they perceive them to be their property because they bought them as slaves. Humanity demands that human beings treat others with empathy as opposed to objects that can be met with violence that leads to physical injuries and permanent marks such as the ones in the image.
# 2. Image
In this second image, a female slave is being branded on her back by a slave trader while her hands are tied from the back and her clothes have been ripped off. Additionally, the person branding her is being watched by other people who seem to be enjoying the activity. It is entirely illegal and immoral to undertake in such activities. Specifically, the pain that the female slave is undergoing is uncalled for. Additionally, the fact that the slave traders use a crude object to do the branding implies that they have the intention of inflicting pain and suffering on the slaves. Although the trade slave itself is illegal, the branding of the slaves is even more brutal and unethical. Viewing this image makes it emotional to watch how the slave suffered under the hands of the traders and their slave masters. The brutality of these actions and activities surrounding slave trade is highly inhuman and immoral.
