The rapid development in science and technology opens up opportunities in various sectors. However, the advancement in military science, computer knowledge, and biotechnology could be disastrous to governments, especially the United States of America. America is a world super power, and is a target to other enemy countries such as North Korea and Russia. The advancement in military technology, especially by the enemies, threatens the peace and stability of America. Such military developments can be used against America friendly nations or America herself. Nonetheless, there is a possibility of terrorists getting their hands to the weapons with the intention to use it on the American soil. The advancement in the knowledge of the use of computers such as the development of artificial intelligence, exposes the government sensitive databases to hackers and fraudsters. Thus, government information could be leaked and used for purposes that harm the security to the country.
While biotechnology is an interesting scientific invention, it threatens the peace of America since the technology can also be used to create new viruses and diseases with the ability to wipe the world’s population. There is fear that some countries are already developing biological weapons against the provisions of the United Nations. Primarily, the position of the U.S as a global power is threatened by the advancing technology in various sectors, especially in military science.
However, the government of the US also finds opportunities in emerging technologies that helps in automation of various activities. Artificial intelligence has been used to speed up various processes and analyses data to enhance decision making in various sectors including the military. Besides, the emerging technology has enabled the government to identify and contain cyber-attacks, especially on government databases. Moreover, it has made it possible to improve public safety during disasters such as floods. For examples, in San Diego, sensors are used to control traffic to ensure public safety.
