Answer

School violence within learning settings is considered as a daily reality which School violence within learning settings is considered as a daily reality which denies many children and young individual the basic right to education. Approximately 246 million adolescents and children within institutions of learning face violence on a daily basis (UNESCO, 2019). In comparison to boys, girls are affected disproportionately. This is based on the fact that the girls are perceived not to follow the predominant gender and sexual customs. Unsafe learning setting or those which violate the education rights of the children and promote discrimination on matters suggesting the equality of treatment and opportunity (UNESCO, 2019).

Different warning signs contribute to violence in schools. The early warning signs to look out for includes an increased feeling of being alone, social withdrawal, the victim of violence, having uncontrolled anger and having a history of discipline concerns. Graves (2018) states that  predicting the behaviour which results to violence is not always possible. However, different combinations of behaviours, emotions, and events may result to a violent behaviour or aggressive rage. Notably, most children who show signs of violence against themselves or others are normally, psychologically victimized or show the feelings of rejection. In events where such children are not provided with support, they will continue having this progressive developmental pattern towards violence or severe aggression. However, when the children are constants supported and guided by adults at home and in the school setting, the potential for violence is significantly reduced (Graves, 2018).

Violence, harassment and crimes in schools should be disallowed through the incorporation of several preventative measures. Adopting physical measures is one of the factors to be considered. Evidently, having stricter security measures such as the use of campus guard services and strong surveillance cameras can aid in reducing violence in schools. The surveillance cameras make it easier for the school authority to monitor any unfamiliar practices as well as dangerous situations , thus providing management with a chance to react in due time before an instance of violence is experienced (Centers of Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), 2020). Employing security guards to patrol the school grounds and other common areas within the learning institutions ensures that the violence in the school settings is reduced. Notably, the guards watch for any suspicious behaviour as well as make it easier to remove any dangerous learners or persons from the school grounds before they cause harm.

Having policies in place focused on preventing violence are also necessary as preventative measures. The policies can include hanging anti-bullying posters in classrooms to remind the learners that violence is not encouraged in schools and that everybody has a right of showing commitment towards improving safety in the learning institution (Shapiro, 2018).

Organising training programs for the educators is also an effective preventive strategy which should be considered to handle the case of school crimes. In this case, the teaching personnel will be informed of the warning signs to look out for to ensure that they can promptly intervene in critical situations before the situations turn into violent ones. Besides having training programs focused on raising awareness, the educative sessions can also be tailored to teach the school personnel about the right tools to be considered for handling emergencies to defuse the emergency case (Shapiro, 2018).

Conclusively, the case of violence continually becomes a factor of concern in learning institutions. This is reflected by the rise in the cases of bullying in the learning settings among other forms of crime. Preventative measures such as assisting the learners to overcome the loneliness are effective in overcoming the crimes and violence in schools and learning institutions. Understanding the warning signs is effective in identifying the preventative measures, which can be put in place to prevent instances of school violence. For instance, having in place counselling programs for the students and the families can be effective in preventing school violence.
