In her book, Stealing My Religion, Liz Bucar argues that “…when we steal religious practices, we are part of religion. We become involved in the internal power dynamics of religious traditions. We meddle in the meanings of practices. We further marginalize the already religiously minoritized” (213). Using your newfound expertise in religious studies – and class readings, discussions and presentations to support what you say – evaluate Bucar’s argument from a religious studies perspective, especially in the light of globalization and modernity. Does this book explain something important about religion in the age of globalization/modernity? Does she do an adequate job of exploring it in her book? Did she identify and define religion in ways you feel are correct and/or compelling?
